*CHOICES
Choices is an alcohol and other drug prevention curriculum for fourth or fifth graders. It is based on the most current research in the prevention field. The ten-session curriculum emphasizes both social skill building and are appropriate information about alcohol and other drugs. CHOICES was designed by and for the Community Based Prevention Specialists in Suffolk County.
The Curriculum is as follows;
Day 1: Positive Self-Talk
Day 2: Group Work & Friendship
Day 3: The Six-Step Process for Solving Problems
Day 4: Communication Skill and I-Messages
Day 5: Chemical Dependency and Who To Go To For Help
Day 6: Alcohol and other Risky Behavior
Day 7: Tobacco, Marijuana and Secondhand Smoke
Day 8: Stress Management
Day 9: Assertiveness Training and Refusal Skills
Day 10: Conflict Management

The Smithtown Youth Bureau and Horizons Counseling and Education Center are now offering life skills workshops.
The Life Skills Training promotes Health and Personal Development resources for adolescents ages 10 to 14 years old, who would benefit from additional training in the areas of:
Self image and Self –improvement
Decision Making
Coping with Anxiety
Communication Skills
Social Skills
Assertiveness
Why people use mood altering substances
The Life Skills Training has been approved as a SAMHSA Research Based Model Program
